HERSTORY

Orphic, authentic, electronic music. Music is derived from the word Muse. The Muses were the goddesses and embodiments of poetry, music, philosophy, dance, and the arts, much like Orthentix, her music, and her prose. Her music takes you on a transformative journey, like a sonic ritual with its orphic nature, entrancing, mystic, brooding, and emotive, bordering on the fringes of society. She has traveled to the underworld and returned many times. Her music deeply expresses this with its authentic narratives, covering themes of personal growth, pain, empowerment, heartache, and transformation. Her musical genre would be defined as a fusion of downtempo indietronica, resonating with deep chill, experimental bass, future ambient, and trip-hop musical styles.

 

Orthentix is a music producer, artist, composer, arranger, studio and live sound engineer, lyricalist, DJ, musicologist, academic author, blogger, media creator, event manager, and facilitator, living in the shire of Byron Bay on the east coast of Australia. She is passionate about intersectional feminism, music production, and musicology. Practicing her art to critique social constructs and generate meaningful dialogue about the realities of womanhood in a patriarchal world. Her qualifications include; Certificate III in Event Management; Certificate IV in Training & Assessment; Diploma of Electronic Music Production (SAE Institute); Bachelor Degree of Audio Production (SAE Institute); and is currently studying a Masters in Creative Industries (SAE Institute).

Production for Orthenix is a sonic ritual. To analyse her inner psyche, or inner wiring and schematics as an artist, you realise that she is expressing her personal experiences with songs full of context, substance, emotion, and grit. Orthentix’s musical journey has evolved over time, releasing her first single ‘Kunoichi Spirit in 2015, then following onto release her first album ‘Fractured’ in 2017. Fractured explores the notions of the cracks within the human being, and the broken being more beautiful than the complete. Conceptualized from Kintsukuroi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold. As our dreams and hopes fall from our hands and shatter into a million pieces, how do we find the beauty in the broken? We wind sturdy bandages of golden resin around the cracks in our hearts. In 2019 she released her second album ‘Divine Affliction’, even more dynamic than the first. ‘Divine Affliction’ is a musical expression of the divine feminine and afflictions she faces. She finds strength in her vulnerability and turns her afflictions into a virtue. The music is a journey through the female experience describing her many facets, motherhood, diversity, empathy, and divine sexuality.

Music has always played a big part in her life. From early childhood, she played 70’s rock licks on guitar before starting music lessons with a church organist. Once at primary school, she played flute in the orchestra and studied music theory. By high school with rebellion the focus, she played electric guitar, mainly Punk and Grunge and was influenced by the genres Hip-Hop, Rap, and Trip-Hop. Orthentix has performed live across Australia at many events and festivals including; Earth Frequency Festival QLD 2017, 2018 and 2020, Newkind Festival TAS 2018, Nunyarra Cultural Festival NSW 2018, Roar Womens Music Festival NSW 2019, along with many local events in the Northern NSW region.

Orthentix uses organic, sustainable and recycled printing & products for her merchandise and promotional material and even provides some handmade, Up-cycled DIY creations in her merchandise sack. She collaborates with like-minded artists and companies of the same ethos.
