HERSTORY

Hailing from the Northern Rivers NSW, Orthentix is a multifaceted artist, embracing the roles of music producer, DJ, blogger, and radio host. She crafts indie electronica inspired from the legion of bass genres. Conceptually, her music delves into introspection mirroring the intricate human experience. Sonically, she is all about breakbeats, phat basslines, and lush melodies with a profound vocal hook.

Having graced Australian festival stages, including Earth Frequency Festival, Newkind Festival, Nunyarra Cultural Festival and Deliverance, Orthentix's DJ performances captivate audiences with many female-produced tracks in her mixes. She is quite the selecta dropping bass ridden bangers from Dubstep to Drum and Bass, Garage, 90’s Trip-hop, along with her own productions of femme electronica. Orthentix is signed to Matriarch Records and is one of the coordinators and resident DJs of radio show Sista’s of Spin on BayFM.

She is passionate about intersectional feminism, music production, and musicology. Practicing her art to critique social constructs and generate meaningful dialogue about the realities of womanhood in a patriarchal world. She advocates inclusivity and diversity in the music industry and uses her platform to amplify marginalised voices and challenge gender norms. Her qualifications include; Certificate III in Event Management; Certificate IV in Training & Assessment; Diploma of Electronic Music Production (SAE Institute); Bachelor Degree of Audio Production (SAE Institute); and Masters in Creative Industries (SAE Institute) with the graduate project Divine Affliction.

Production for Orthenix is a sonic ritual. To analyse her inner psyche, or inner wiring and schematics as an artist, you realise that she is expressing her personal experiences with songs full of context, substance, emotion, and grit. Orthentix’s musical journey has evolved over time, releasing her first single ‘Kunoichi Spirit in 2015, then following onto release her first album ‘Fractured’ in 2017. Fractured explores the notions of the cracks within the human being, and the broken being more beautiful than the complete. Conceptualized from Kintsukuroi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold. As our dreams and hopes fall from our hands and shatter into a million pieces, how do we find the beauty in the broken? We wind sturdy bandages of golden resin around the cracks in our hearts. In 2019 she released her second album ‘Divine Affliction’, even more dynamic than the first. ‘Divine Affliction’ is a musical expression of the divine feminine and afflictions she faces. She finds strength in her vulnerability and turns her afflictions into a virtue. The music is a journey through the female experience describing her many facets, motherhood, diversity, empathy, and divine sexuality. Her latest release Depthsword, a Drum and Bass dance track with a jungle vibe and an atmosphere of spirituality converging the street which has gained traction with 3.5K views on YouTube and over 2k streams on Spotify.

Music has always played a big part in her life. From early childhood, she played 70’s rock licks on guitar before starting music lessons with a church organist. Once at primary school, she played flute in the orchestra and studied music theory. By high school with rebellion the focus, she played electric guitar, mainly Punk and Grunge and was influenced by the genres Hip-Hop, Rap, and Trip-Hop. As a young adult, she played percussive world music focusing on African Marimbas and Drumming. The amalgamation and integration of her musical journey, echo’s throughout her tracks...
